Day 161

photo10Day 161: September 10th

Mile 2418.6 to Mile 2444.1

Funny how Pacific Crest Trail hikers can get spread out. In two days of hiking I have only seen two northbound section hikers. Starting to feel a little lonely out here. I met a southbound section hiker this afternoon and he tells me that I’m the 40th thru-hiker he had seen in two days of hiking. I guess everyone is ahead of me. Probably because I got a late start leaving Snoqualmie Pass.

Snoqualmie Pass
Near Snoqualmie Pass

Day 160: September 9th

Mile 2402 (Snoqualmie Pass) to Mile 2418.6

The Summit Inn was full of hikers, probably 25 or 30 staying at the Inn and a bunch more just having meals at the Pancake House next door. Not sure where they all came from, but there are a lot of hikers on this section of the Pacific Crest Trail.

It rained last night (as forecast) and was foggy and misty in the morning so I relaxed in the motel a few hours waiting for the weather to clear before I started hiking around 10.

It’s a big climb out of Snoqualmie Pass, about 6,000 feet according to the Halfmile App for today. A lot of today’s hiking was in the fog and clouds but at least it was not raining.

Day 159

Day 159: September 8th

Mile 2392 (Twilight Lake) to Mile 2402 (Snoqualmie Pass)

Today was a short day of hiking to a nero at the Summit Inn at Snoqualmie Pass. The Pass is a very small ski resort next to Interstate Highway 90. Not too much here, but it’s been a relaxing half day off with several meals at the Pancake House next door.

I have now passed to 2,400 mile mark and only have about 260 miles remaining to reach Canada.

Wow, the trail angels were out in force on the Pacific Crest Trail this weekend. Trail magic four times in three days.

Day 157

Mile 2345.5 to Mile 2368

It’s starting to feel a bit like autumn on the Pacific Crest Trail. The days are cooler and the nights too. But it had not yet turned really cold. Some of the bushes and other foliage are turning colors.

Day 156

Day 156: September 5th

Mile 2322.8 to 2345.5

It was a beautiful day today as the Pacific Crest Trail continued through Mount Ranier National Park this morning. The PCT passes east of the mountain and does not go to the summit but we still have excellent views of it. I met Deb at Chinook Pass for lunch and resupply and then continued hiking north for the rest of the afternoon.
