Day 174

Day 174: September 23rd
Mile 2653.8 to Manning Park, BC

This morning I walked the final six miles to the northern terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail at the Canadian border where I found Deb waiting for me. She had camped at the trail camp about 2/10 mile into Canada.

We celebrated briefly (along with a handful of other hikers who arrived at the same time), took a few photos, and drank a tiny bottle of Champagne that Deb carried in.

Deb and I then hiked eight miles to the Manning Park where we had a late lunch and checked into the lodge.

2,660 miles of continuous footsteps from the Mexican border to the Canadian border are done. The hike has been an amazing journey that I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Lon,
Congratulations seems too small a word to tell you how fantastic a journey you have made–and how marvelous your posts and pictures have brought your path into our lives. It was particularly enjoyable to see when you would traverse those small portions of the PCT that I have been on, although the speed with which you were hiking was always so swift that it seemed sometimes you were hardly touching the ground. Throughout your hike, Deb was your faithful companion; the two of you should be sublimely happy with how you did this together. Exquisite work, my friend.

Thanks for sharing your journey. I looked forward your posts and was always excited when 3 or 4 would pop up in my inbox. Thanks for bringing the PCT to this hiker as I went on my own journey this year, with cancer. Happy Trails. ❤
